First grade students have been learning about plants. They studied the parts of the plant and what each part does for the plant, and the life cycle. Alexis Schmidt from Fillmore County Extension office read a cute book -Tops and Bottoms. Students enjoyed learning about which part of the plant we eat. Students then tried to identify each seed.
In honor of Earth Day, the fifth grade class participated in a scavenger hunt where they were assigned to find a list of items in nature and present their findings.

At our monthly assembly this morning, three FCES students were recognized by the Nebraska Federation of Women's Clubs for their writing. Congratulations to Phoebe, Kashtyn, and Raelee!
This edition of, "What's on York Fork," at the Middle School was the tropical Dragon Fruit. Native to southern climates the students learned that this sweet fruit comes from the cactus plant. It's a good source of antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins! Thanks Mrs. Hofferber and Jenni Hoarty for sharing your wisdom on this unique fruit.

First graders learned about insects and their body parts. As a final project, students created their own insects from egg cartons with Alexis, Fillmore County Extension.

Brandy VanDeWalle visited the fifth grade class today to teach them about the value of money, keys to saving and improving productivity in our lives. Thanks Brandy!
Yesterday ,Spanish students participated in the Traveling Suitcase program by the University of Florida. We explored the contents of the Latin America Andean Region suitcase all about music and dance. We listened to authentic Andean region music while we discussed interesting artifacts from that region, such as wooden flutes, traditional clothing, ceramic whistles, a rain stick, and traditional toys.

The high school had their annual give back day on April 17th. The day consisted of class competitions, CPR training provided by local volunteers, and community services projects around Geneva and Fairmont.
Fillmore Central’s National Honor Society and Student Council organized community service projects that included, maintaining the downtown Geneva flower beds, doing activities with Fairview Manor residents, stuffing Easter eggs at Heritage Crossings, and cleaning up trash, leaves and branches at multiple homes, parks and Boys Pond. Thanks again to all of the volunteers that made this day possible!
